LACIGF is a truly regional meeting space for multistakeholder political dialogue, where governments, the private sector, the technical community, academia, and civil society organizations present and discuss their various perspectives, which are then taken to the global stage as the region's voice.
LACIGF meetings have contributed to expand the understanding of Internet Governance issues, its actors, institutions, and processes, as well as their impact on the region. This process began in 2008 after the first Regional Preparatory Meeting for the Internet Governance Forum and has been helping regionalize the debate surrounding the IGF global agenda since its early editions.
The LACIGF Program Committee works with the secretariat to raise the funds needed to make the meeting possible.
The secretariat manages the contributions received by the LACIGF trust fund and uses them to finance the event's logistics: conference rooms, audiovisual support, simultaneous interpretation, live streaming services, support staff during the meeting, preparing the conference agenda, accommodation, travel and accommodation sponsorships to attend both LACIGF and the global IGF, communication and dissemination materials.
One of the key elements of LACIGF meetings is the Financial Assistance Program, which allows a large number of regional stakeholders to obtain the financial support needed to attend.
Contributions are used to cover the direct costs of the activity and to feed the Sponsorship Program.
