Session #1: Guaranteeing and Promoting Human rights within the Region: Surveillance and Privacy in Latin America and the Caribbean (09:00 – 10:30)

The goal of this session is to map the risks faced by human rights and situations where human rights are violated, as well as to identify mechanisms for the promotion of human rights throughout the region so as to prevent the denial of rights such as privacy.

Session #2: The right to be forgotten: regulation and impact in Latin America and the Caribbean and on freedom of expression (11:00 – 12:30)

This panel seeks to share the opinions of various actors who participated in recent debates in Brazil, Mexico, Argentina and Colombia, now that it's been more than a year since the European directive on the right to be forgotten came into force.

Session #3: Balance between intellectual property and access to knowledge. The role of intermediaries and freedom of expression (12:30 – 14:00)

Historically, intellectual property legislation has sought to create a balance between the promotion of creativity and innovation through the protection of artistic and intellectual works, on the one hand, and providing greater access to knowledge and culture through mechanisms such as “fair use” and restrictions on the duration of copyright protection, for example.

Recognizing that a discrepancy exists between legislation and social standards and the use of new technologies, several questions will be proposed for discussion.

Session #5: Policy options for connecting the next billion (16:30 – 18:00)

This session's main purpose is to make concrete, multistakeholder contributions for the development of connectivity policy options that will ensure Internet access for the next billion users. The title of the session is taken from one of the IGF's cross-cutting issues, based on recommendations provided by the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

Session #7: The Internet of Things in Latin America and the Caribbean (09:30 to 11:00)

Goal of the Session: The success and standardization of the Internet of Things involves many challenges at both global and Latin American level, among them, making sure that the radio spectrum can support 50 billion devices, the need to deploy IPv6 to overcome the lack of number resources, the role of government regulations, and the need to ensure privacy. During this panel, each actor will have the chance to share their specific points of view regarding each of these challenges.
